We will be holding the "Shintaro Enoki Exhibition" at our Uehara store from Saturday, September 5 to Tuesday, September 8!

FOOD FOR THOUGHT Uehara will host the first solo exhibition at our store by ceramic artist Shintaro Enami

from Saturday, September 5 to Tuesday, September 8.

◆

We first met Enami at the studio of his mentors, Tetsuya and Momoko Otani.

After going independent, he fully absorbed their essence and

established his own distinctive style, known as "Wave."

Regularly incised wave (ridged) lines.

While creating a sense of geometric order,

their contours remain soft,

reminiscent of plants, shells, or yet-unnamed living creatures.

Perfect repetition and the subtle variations of handcraft.

A quiet vitality born from clay that should be hard.

As the light changes, the shadows cast by the waves shift,

bringing a landscape to life on the surface of each vessel.

Vases, pots, cups, bowls, plates.

Though they are objects for everyday use,

the moment they are placed, they transform the space like sculptures.

In addition to the traditional white and mocha, a new teal color will also make its debut.

The charming and sophisticated tones pair beautifully with vintage vessels and cutlery.

Like an egg brought from somewhere in the universe,

or a fossil that has been there since ancient times.

Shintaro Enami's work evokes

the mysterious sensation of encountering something unknown.

Vessels for use and forms for contemplation.

Please come and see these works born on the boundary between the two. (Igarashi)
