We will be holding a solo exhibition by potter Masayuki Miyagi, who creates ceramics in Nanjo City, Okinawa Prefecture. This is the fourth year FOOD FOR THOUGHT has hosted Masayuki Miyagi's solo exhibition around this season.

One of the charms of Miyagi's works is their ease of use, making you want to use them every day in your daily life. The dynamic kiln changes on the clay body, which gives a sense of the power of the earth, may at first glance give a profound impression, but when you pick them up, they are surprisingly light and quietly fit into your hand.

While pottery culture has a strong image of being rooted in specific regions, the expressions of contemporary artisans are expanding richly. When asked about the elements influenced by Okinawan pottery culture in his work, Miyagi said, "I have learned from pieces dating back to before the Ryukyu Kingdom, which were made as trade goods, and I am also interested in works with strong everyday elements from the Mingei movement onwards." While carefully preserving the culture and traditions of Okinawa, he also sublimates the essence of diverse learnings and encounters, creating many modern works that blend into changing lifestyles. You'll find yourself reaching for them every day and setting them on your table. Miyagi's works are items that complement various dishes, regardless of nationality, and seamlessly integrate into daily life.

And above all, a distinctive feature of Miyagi's work is its uniformity. In addition to his breathtakingly beautiful throwing techniques, honed through diligent training, his reliable experience in controlling kiln changes is undoubtedly the result of many years of dedication.

There's the beautiful "celadon glaze," a blue as if the Okinawan sea itself arrived, the captivating deep green "ash glaze," the "white glaze" with its white gradation like weathered rock, and the "black glaze" that emits a dull, iron-like glow. This time, Miyagi has created a variety of items using these four types of glazes. Of course, popular classics at FOOD FOR THOUGHT such as plates, bowls, and goblets will also be available.

It's the season when many spring delicacies are in season. We hope you enjoy selecting pieces while imagining what ingredients you'll use, what dining scenes you'll create, and how you'll enjoy Miyagi's pottery with loved ones.

Our entire staff eagerly awaits your visit.
