「伊藤環 展」2/18(土)-2/21(火)上原店で開催!

"Tamaki Ito Exhibition" will be held at our Uehara store from 2/18 (Sat) to 2/21 (Tue)!

FOOD FOR THOUGHT Uehara will be holding a solo exhibition by ceramist Kan Ito from Saturday, February 18th to Tuesday, February 21st. This is his first solo exhibition at our store in three years.

Admission tickets are required for the first day from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Tickets will be available for purchase starting Saturday, February 11th at 10:00 PM on our dedicated ticket reservation site (foodforthoughtshop.net).

Kan Ito's exhibition marked the beginning of solo exhibitions at FOOD FOR THOUGHT.
Five years have passed since then, and this is his third exhibition.
Kan-san consistently presents new expressions.

From Kan-san's works, which pursue the essence of "ceramic" expression through diverse styles, I am reminded of the term "Style-less" used to describe Gerhard Richter's artistic style.

I believe that expression begins with grasping the essence of things.

It is the act of discovering and understanding the brilliance and vitality of an object, processing it, and then conveying it through one's own words and hands. When I think of "whose perspective and processing I want to delve into," the first person who comes to mind is Kan Ito.

"Getting hints from old things."

It's easy to say, but I feel that his expressive resolution is one or two levels higher.

This exhibition primarily features the Cuneoire series. Cuneoire, often categorized as Art Populaire (folk craft), is popular enough to have collectors worldwide, but it was originally pottery for common people.

I've been strongly feeling lately that people's sense of "beauty" sometimes arises beyond conscious thought, in a relaxed, unconscious realm, so to speak. The "beauty of utility" in folk crafts—forms meticulously designed for use—ultimately embodies beauty.

Trial and error. Countless repetitions of struggle and achievement form Kan-san's foundation, and it is because of this sturdy stage of technique and logic that his works dance lightly and freely upon it. They even have a sense of live spontaneity, liberated from thought like a drawing. This is a realm that every creator aspires to reach.

Please pick up and see the answer to Cuneoire that Kan-san has processed. And please use it.

These are works with a universality that makes you want to see them in 10, 50, and 100 years. They are truly wonderful. We hope many customers will come to see them.

All our staff members sincerely look forward to your visit.
