“Hanakage” is one of Sakaida’s signature and most popular series. As its name suggests, these romantic pieces cast flower-like shadows on the table when placed under a strong light source. Each piece features a subtle color gradient at the base, and the way the colors mingle with the shadows is truly beautiful.
For glassware, the edges are made exceptionally thin for a smooth feel against the lips. The rims of plates, bowls, and vases are gently rolled. Each piece has been thoughtfully designed with both usability and beauty in mind.

Aki Sakaida, Artist Profile
- Born in Akita City, Akita Prefecture, in 1982
- Completed the Research Program at Akita Municipal Junior College of Arts and Crafts in 2012
- Relocated to Toyama in 2012
- Worked at Toyama Glass Studio before returning to Akita City in 2017, where she established her own studio
As each piece is individually handmade, variations in color, shape, size, thickness, and other details are to be expected.
These pieces are entirely handmade using blown glass. During the production process, natural variations such as unevenness and air bubbles may appear on or within the glass. Light marks from the forming tools may also be visible on the surface. These do not affect the functionality of the piece and are distinctive characteristics of handmade glass.
This is not heat-resistant glass. Please do not use it with boiling water, in a microwave, or in a dishwasher.
