July 18 (Sat) - 21 (Tue) "Kikuchi Daigo Exhibition" to be held at the Uehara Store
FOOD FOR THOUGHT Uehara will host a solo exhibition by glass artist Daigo Kikuchi, "Daigo Kikuchi Exhibition," from Saturday, July 18 to Tuesday, July 21.

"Another form lives within the transparent glass."
Every time I see Mr. Kikuchi's work, I think about the mysterious presence that glass possesses.
Transparent, light, and cool.
But Mr. Kikuchi's glass is not merely refreshing.
Spheres floating in vessels.
Slender, elongated legs.
Full, rounded contours.
They look like old medicine bottles or laboratory equipment, like specimens, and like tiny living creatures.
Glass is inherently a material that lets light through and reveals what lies beyond.
But in Mr. Kikuchi's work, the presence of the form itself quietly emerges from that transparency.
Rather than using color, another landscape is born within the glass through thickness, distortion, overlapping contours, and the refraction of light.
I feel that this ambiguity and certainty are the great charms of Mr. Kikuchi's work.
Forms that look like classic vessels, yet seem to belong just a little bit in a dream.
Practical tools that somehow also resemble sculptures.
Quiet, clear, yet slightly humorous and slightly unsettling.
That balance is very much Mr. Kikuchi.
This solo exhibition is Mr. Kikuchi's first solo exhibition at our store, which FOOD FOR THOUGHT has long awaited.
And on the first day, Mr. Kikuchi himself is scheduled to be present in the store.
Furthermore, this time, Mr. Kikuchi himself will brew coffee for customers using a glass coffee dripper and server being unveiled for the first time. The cups you will drink from are, of course, also Mr. Kikuchi's glass.
Not only seeing the work, but brewing coffee with that glass and drinking from it.
I believe it will be a special first day where you can experience Mr. Kikuchi's work as something to use, something that catches the light, and something held in your hands.
In this exhibition, we will introduce Mr. Kikuchi's unique transparent forms, including glasses, covered vessels, flower vessels, objects, and coffee-related pieces.
Placed on the dining table, they serve as vessels.
Placed by the window, they become small sculptures catching the light.
They are pieces of glass that exist in everyday life, yet possess a presence that catches your eye.
Please come to the store and see them for yourself, holding them in your hands.
We sincerely look forward to your visit.
