From Saturday, May 3rd to Sunday, May 11th, FOOD FOR THOUGHT Uehara will be holding a solo exhibition by
potter Yukimichi Kiyooka.

This will be Yukimichi Kiyooka's third solo exhibition at our store, and the first in about two years.
The characteristic feature of Kiyooka's works is their rich glaze. Even with green glazes, there are so many variations, including olive, blue-gray, blue-gray olive, blue-gray white, and ash-white olive! By adjusting the firing method, delicate color changes occur at each stage, and even the hue and texture visible change depending on the angle of the finished piece. The combination of clay and glaze is also very beautiful.
And the forms, while having a crisp and sharp impression, also embody a softness, giving us a sense of Kiyooka's essence within their simplicity. His extremely delicate pottery wheel work is so well-crafted that it feels surprisingly light and comfortable to hold.
The unique and singular presence of Kiyooka's pottery, which seems like it could exist anywhere but is found nowhere else, is born from the meticulous layering of all these conditions. Beautiful pieces that show careful handwork down to the smallest detail will be displayed at the Uehara store.
While having a strong presence, many customers tell us that Kiyooka's works "make food look good." The expressions of the kiln changes give each piece a rich individuality, but they don't overpower; instead, they achieve an exquisite balance that carefully enhances the food. For this exhibition, he's bringing oval plates, rimmed plates, round bowls, and even pitchers, which are highly popular at our store! He will deliver many beautiful items that will add a fresh touch to your summer table. The "Ao-hai-yu" (blue-gray glaze), with its transparent, vivid, and bright blue, will be unveiled for the first time at our store! Please look forward to it.
