Michikazu Sakai & Tomoko Sakai Exhibition - Online from 10:00 PM (JST) on Saturday, March 16th
This weekend, March 16th (Saturday) from 22:00 JST, the online sale for Michikazu and Tomoko Sakai's first exhibition at our store will finally begin!
The works of Mr. and Mrs. Sakai are very popular in our store. This is their first joint exhibition.
The Sakai couple creates pottery using wood-fired kilns in the satoyama (foothills) of Kagawa Prefecture. Michikazu has provided a wide range of pieces, including his signature Oribe glaze, as well as Mimosa glaze and Kohiki. His work is widely popular, ranging from familiar everyday plates and bowls to elaborate, irregularly shaped plates and tea ceremony utensils.
Tomoko's works are characterized by their intricate and beautiful silhouettes. We will mainly feature her white porcelain and white glaze pieces. Her bowls and vessels have slender bases, creating a pleasant tension. The delicate yet taut sculptural balance against the smooth, soft white is exceptional.
