"Hanakage" is one of Ms. Sakaida's representative and popular series. As the name suggests, these romantic pieces cast flower-like shadows on the table under strong light. Each piece has a subtle color gradient at the bottom, and the way the colors entwine with the shadows is also beautiful.
Whether it's making the edges of glassware very thin for a pleasant feel on the lips, or rimming the mouths of plates, bowls, and vases, every piece is thoroughly considered from both usability and aesthetic perspectives.
This large bowl is a special piece unique to her solo exhibition.
It can be used as a fruit bowl, or even for serving somen noodles in ice water, making it a centerpiece for your summer table.
Ms. Sakaida also enjoys filling it with water or using it as a vase. The thick bottom provides a sense of security.
