07 Round Rim Plate M (Teal)

FFT's featured artist, potter Shintaro Enami.

He is a notable artist who recently became independent from Otani Pottery in April 2025, after gaining five years of diverse experience as the top apprentice to Tetsuya and Momoko Otani.

Enami's works feature distinctive waves (shinogi). Each one is hand-carved, and their elegant and intricate expressions are breathtaking. His pottery wheel technique is, simply put, superb.

His pieces are lightweight, comfortable to hold, and have excellent weight balance.

The round-rimmed plates have a strong curve to the rim, which prevents food that needs to be scooped, such as curry, from escaping the plate. The M size is also recommended as a curry plate for children.

The new color "Teal" was unveiled for the first time.

The pale blue-green glaze shows variations from the kiln. The granular texture of the surface contrasts with the smooth waves (shinogi pattern) of the rim and foot. This color allows for a richer enjoyment of the expressions created by the way light hits it, more so than Enami's previous works.

As this pottery is absorbent, its texture will change with the moisture and oil from food. It is prone to staining, so it is recommended to avoid dark-colored dishes until the entire piece has absorbed oil. The more you use it, the more character it develops, so we hope you enjoy this transformation. If you are concerned, try soaking it in water for about 10 minutes before use. This will help prevent staining and odors to some extent, and allow the pottery to gradually "grow."
