09 Comport Plate (Moka)

FFT's featured artist, potter Shintaro Enami.

He is a notable artist who, after five years of diverse experience as Tetsuya and Momoko Otani's top apprentice, went independent from "Otani Seitojo." Enami's works feature distinctive waves (shinogi). All are handcrafted, and their elegant and intricate expressions are truly breathtaking. His potting wheel skills are, as expected, superb.

The rust-like texture evokes ancient ritual vessels and stemmed antiquities, while the bold simplification of form gives it a modern sculpture-like sensibility.

It's perfect for casually displaying persimmons, grapes, or figs, or for arranging small portions of ham and cheese, leaving some empty space. It's also recommended for a rough display of bread or baked goods. Especially when serving irregularly shaped fruits like grapes or figs, which will be in season soon, the waves of the dish are further accentuated.

[Handling Instructions]
As this pottery is absorbent, its texture will change with the moisture and oil from food. Since it is prone to staining, it is recommended to avoid dark-colored dishes until the entire piece has absorbed oil. The more it is used, the more character it develops, and we hope you enjoy this transformation. If you are concerned, try soaking it in water for about 10 minutes before use. This will help prevent staining and odors to some extent, allowing it to gradually mature.
