"Yuka Owada Exhibition" 2/8 (Sat) - 2/16 (Sun) @ FOOD FOR THOUGHT Uehara Store
FOOD FOR THOUGHT Uehara will be holding a solo exhibition by ceramic artist Yuka Owada from Saturday, February 8th to Tuesday, February 16th.
◆
If I were to describe Owada's works in words, it would be "a sense of floating with intention." The vertical stretch in particular, in her standing and bag-shaped pieces, is truly unique.
It feels as if the clay defies plasticity and intentionally creates its proportions. The evocative titles for each series are also excellent, showing that the artist systematically views her work with self-awareness. When many works are displayed together, the pieces connect even further, allowing one to immerse themselves in the "Owada World."
Though technical, delicate, and possessing a sense of tension in their appearance, it's characteristic that everything appears to have a gentle roundness.
And I believe she is a genius at creating shadows.
The carbonized firing works featured in the main visual create beautiful black expressions with varying shades by adsorbing carbon onto the pieces. Owada says, "I don't really have an image in mind after firing; I enjoy the randomness of carbonization." Achieving the desired expression is very difficult, and since no two pieces are the same, encountering a work is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
The harmony between the delicate and soft shades of carbonized firing and the forms is also incredibly beautiful, overflowing with a charm that makes one want to savor it deeply.
For this exhibition, items that Owada fans will adore, such as pots, teapots, plates, vases, and spouted bowls, will be available. Please look forward to it.
All the staff at the Uehara store sincerely look forward to your visit.
