小宮崇「夏の白」7/12(土)-7/16(水)上原店にて開催!

Takashi Komiya "Summer White" will be held at our Uehara store from Saturday, July 12th to Wednesday, July 16th!

From Saturday, July 12th to Wednesday, July 16th, FOOD FOR THOUGHT Uehara will host a solo exhibition by glass artist Takashi Komiya.
Mr. Komiya will be present on the opening day, Saturday, July 12th. This is a unique opportunity to get tips on choosing a piece. Fans, don't miss it!

One of his representative works, the "White Vessels" series, which draws a lot of attention from customers, is characterized by its gentle nuanced colors created by fusing snow-white glass powder onto the surface of a gray base, and its unique texture that softly envelops light. The outer surface of the vessels is sandblasted, giving it a moist and silky feel. The base of all works is an original gray color melted in his own studio. The deep and soft colors are captivating.

Transparent glass, when colored, gains a distinct outline. And the graceful proportions are highlighted by the color. It is precisely because the forms are composed of simple lines that their supple curved lines and beautifully balanced proportions stand out. I feel that at its core lies a "universal aesthetic value" that has emerged from constantly questioning what is necessary in life and carefully selecting it. Mr. Komiya's vessels, which do not overly assert themselves and generously embrace what is placed on them, will become wonderful partners in daily life!

To briefly introduce the production technique, the "White Vessels" series, as mentioned above, has its surface covered with opaque white glass, making it impossible to see the shape of the air during blowing. The process of adjusting thickness and size intuitively is a skill that comes only from continuous experience with the material. On the other hand, items made using original molds require fine adjustments to the amount and method of blowing glass around the mold, depending on the size and shape of the mold that forms the water-like texture. The difficult part is to quickly and efficiently form the glass to a thickness that will be easy to use when completed. The soft shapes of free-blown glass and the sharp shapes created by blowing into metal molds. Even with the same glassblowing technique, different processes reveal completely different material charms.

Mr. Komiya effortlessly creates beautiful forms one after another, communicating precisely with natural forces such as heat, gravity, and centrifugal force. Each item is incredibly well-balanced, and much thought has gone into the person who will hold it daily. While its appearance is so natural that it doesn't betray the traces of tireless effort, it is filled with the creator's dedication down to the smallest detail.

This exhibition will also feature glasses, goblets, sake pourers, sake cups, and popular shallow bowls that are highly praised by chefs and culinary artists! A full lineup of items that are sure to be a big hit on your summer table. Don't miss this opportunity.

Receiving the sparkling sunlight, the light and dancing glass pieces.
