palette pottery Trunk Show 6/29-7/2 @ Uehara store!

FOOD FOR THOUGHT Uehara will be holding a trunk show for potter Shinsaku Nakazono's new brand, "palette pottery," from Saturday, June 29, to Tuesday, July 2, 2024.

Shinsaku Nakazono is an undeniably popular artist. His works at the "Bishukakoten" exhibition, which showcases items to adorn autumn dinner parties, are always quick to sell out. The joy of choosing from his colorful sake cups is undeniably a highlight of this exhibition.

For approximately 10 years, Shinsaku Nakazono has been an individual artist, creating works that enchant us with their rich colors.

"In recent years, I've come to feel the joy and potential of thinking as a 'team' about things I previously thought of as solitary endeavors. This led me to want to create a brand of ceramics called 'palette pottery' and challenge myself with something new," he says, explaining the origins of the brand. His words convey both anticipation for a new stage and a fresh sense of fulfillment in working as a team.

"palette pottery" works are characterized by their soft, colorful expressions. This is achieved through a technique called spraying, where the concentration and layering of glazes are meticulously adjusted to create variations. This process results in beautiful blurred effects after firing, forming a scenic view within the ceramics.

The mixing and flow of glazes created during the production process are like changing seasons or internal landscapes. The fresh, moist colors evoke memories of past scenes, such as the sweet scent announcing the blooming season, sunlight softly filtering through lush green young leaves, or the lingering red in the western sky at dusk.

For this exhibition, numerous works that will likely become staple items for "palette pottery" will be available, including oval dishes, bowls, and plates. These pieces, primarily in easy-to-use sizes for everyday life, will elegantly adorn your table!

The forms created with high molding techniques are also a highlight. Each piece has an excellent feel that makes you want to use it again and again. Furthermore, their bright yet subdued colors mean they complement anything placed on them. From home cooking to sweets, these works, infused with a warm touch, gently embrace and harmonize with any dish, whether Japanese, Western, or Chinese.

He also gives us a sneak peek into new works, saying, "At 'palette pottery,' we are experimenting with various changes not only in color but also in shape. Recently, we've been trying methods like distorting and carving after throwing on the wheel. I hope you'll get to see these experimental items at this trunk show." Please look forward to it!

What kind of colorful world awaits in the future envisioned by this artist, who continues to embrace relentless challenges?

Whether you are a long-time fan or new to his work, please come and enjoy the "color landscapes" of "palette pottery," the new world view led by Shinsaku Nakazono, at the venue.

All our staff eagerly await your visit! (Ohki)
