MODERN CLASSIC OVAL PLATE L
Because every step in the "MODERN CLASSIC" series is done by hand by artisans, there may be slight black spots from iron filings, small air bubbles, or traces of glaze flow. Just as the 1900s brocante we aimed for, we value the traces of handcraftsmanship, so please purchase with understanding. Any pieces with cracks, chips, or distortions that would affect safe use have been rejected during inspection.

The "Oval Plate" from the MODERN CLASSIC series. This is the L size.
Our director, Yuko Watanabe, often uses antique French oval plates. She particularly favors plain white ones from the late 1800s to early 1900s that are not too large, not too long, thin, and elegant.
Such "just right oval plates" have become highly popular, and even in their home country, it's hard to find a matching set.
Therefore, to allow you to enjoy them on your dining table alongside our popular original café au lait bowls, we matched the glaze, thinness, and feel. While based on brocante oval plates, we enhanced them to perfectly suit the Japanese dining table.
The L size is 1 shaku (approx. 29cm) on the long side and 7.5 sun (approx. 22.7cm) on the inner diameter, fitting Japanese dining tables. Its uses are endless: for mains and sides, pasta, one-plate dishes, or assorted desserts!
Heavy oval plates often get tucked away in the back of the cupboard, but we've created the perfect balance to make this one as thin and elegant as possible, so it can be a regular on your table.
The gentle curve of the rim not only firmly holds dishes with sauce but also makes it easy to grip during washing, creating a thin, beautiful reflection of light on the edge when stacked. They are truly beautiful when stacked, making them perfect for "visible storage" like open kitchens, or for use in restaurants and cafes.
High-quality Japanese porcelain. This is a confident product created through trial and error with reliable artisans.
The proportions are based on French brocante from the late 1800s to early 1900s, modernized with a focus on extreme thinness, pushing the limit before it becomes fragile. While it has a soft, smooth, and rounded feel, the details convey a sense of tension.
The slightly grayish-white glaze gives a gentle impression, considering its versatility for both home and commercial use. The bottom features a gray "FOOD FOR THOUGHT" logo.
