03 Rim Plate L (Teal)

Shintaro Enami is a ceramic artist drawing attention at FFT. Having spent five years gaining diverse experience as the top apprentice to Tetsuya and Momoko Otani, he is an up-and-coming artist who has since struck out on his own from the "Otani Pottery Studio."

Enami’s work features a signature "wave" pattern. Each one is hand-carved, creating an elegant and intricate appearance that is truly masterful. His wheel-throwing technique, meanwhile, is nothing short of exceptional.

The new "Teal" color makes its debut at this exhibition.

The pale blue-green glaze retains subtle kiln-transmutation effects. The granular texture of the surface contrasts beautifully with the smooth waves (shinogi carving) on the rims and feet. This color allows you to enjoy a richer range of expressions created by the way light hits the piece than in any of Enami's previous works.

Enami says the rim plate is the piece he uses most often at home and feels he cannot do without. The L size is perfect for a single-plate meal or for serving in the center of the table. You can use it as your main dish plate.

As these are handmade works by the artist, there are individual differences in glaze, color, and size.

Because this pottery is absorbent, its character will evolve as it absorbs moisture and oils from your food. As it is prone to staining, we recommend avoiding strongly colored foods until the surface is well-seasoned with oil. We hope you enjoy the way the piece develops and gains personality through use. If you are concerned about staining, try soaking the piece in water for about 10 minutes before use. This will help prevent staining and odors to some extent, allowing it to mature gradually.
