Navel Cup
Introducing the "Navel Glass," named for the small sphere in the middle of the glass! Its charming appearance is sure to capture everyone's attention around the table! Not only is it perfect for drinks, but it can also be used to serve salads or hold fruits. In the warmer months, it would be lovely to use it like a soba choko (sake cup for dipping noodles).
If you turn over a glass made by Yoshihiko Takahashi, you'll notice a small "ponte" mark. A ponte is an iron rod that is attached to the bottom of the glass with a small amount of molten glass, acting as an adhesive, to help expand the rim of the piece. The charming, navel-like appearance is a remnant of the free-blowing production process and a testament to its handmade nature. Mr. Takahashi intentionally leaves these ponte marks, making the underside of the glass a delightful discovery.
