Because this pottery is absorbent, its appearance will change with the moisture and oil from food. It is prone to staining, so we recommend avoiding intensely colored dishes until the entire surface has absorbed oil. The more you use it, the more character it develops, so we hope you enjoy these changes. If you are concerned, try soaking it in water for about 10 minutes before use. This will help prevent staining and odors to some extent, and the piece will gradually develop a rich patina.
