Mold cup

This work features a distinctive texture created by lightly blowing glass into a ribbed optical mold and then twisting it in one direction while inflating it. The sparkling reflections are refreshing and perfect for the upcoming hot season. It has a slightly calmer and softer swirling pattern than the Guruguru Cup.

If you turn over a cup by Yoshihiko Takahashi, you'll notice a small "ponte" mark. A ponte is an iron rod that is attached to the bottom of the cup with a small amount of glass acting as an adhesive, in order to widen the mouth of the piece. This charming, navel-like mark is a remnant of the free-blown glass production process and is a testament to its handmade nature. Takahashi-san intentionally leaves these ponte marks, making the underside of the cup a pleasure to behold.

[Yoshihiko Takahashi Brief Biography]
Born in Tokyo in 1958. In 1980, he graduated from Tama Art University, Faculty of Art and Design, Department of Three-Dimensional Design, Product Design Specialization, Craft Design Course. After serving as a research assistant in the Department of Three-Dimensional Design at the same university, he honed his glassmaking skills from 1982 to 1984 as an assistant at Glasstudio Am Wasserturm (Reichenbach, Germany). In 1985, he established his studio in Sagamihara City. He served as a professor at Tama Art University until the end of March 2022.
