Shintaro Enami is a ceramic artist receiving considerable attention at FFT.

This is Enami’s new Hold Cup.

As its name suggests, its appeal lies in how comfortable it feels in your hands. The distinctive shape, with a gently pinched-in center, sits naturally in the hand whether held with one hand or cradled in both.

Fill it with a warm drink and enjoy a quiet moment while feeling the warmth of the ceramic spread across your palms. It is ideal for coffee, tea, Japanese tea, herbal tea, and whatever else suits your mood that day.

Because it has no handle, you can fully appreciate the texture and temperature of the vessel itself in your hands.

This is a cup that invites you to enjoy even the simple gestures of wrapping your hands around it and bringing it to your lips.

Care Instructions

This ceramic piece is porous, so its character and appearance will gradually change as it absorbs moisture and oils from food. Because it is susceptible to color transfer, we recommend avoiding strongly colored dishes until the surface has become naturally seasoned with oil.

The more you use it, the more character it will develop. We hope you enjoy this gradual transformation. If you are concerned about staining or odors, soak the piece in water for approximately 10 minutes before use. This can help reduce color transfer and odors while allowing the piece to develop gently over time.

Shintaro Enami Profile

• Born in 1989 in Kobe, Japan
• Studied Chinese at Fudan University in Shanghai from 2011 to 2013
• Worked at the studio of his grandfather, Kenzo Ogawa, from 2017
• Completed the Small-Item Wheel-Throwing Course at the Shigaraki Ceramic Testing Institute in 2018
• Completed the Clay Body and Glaze Course at the Shigaraki Ceramic Testing Institute in 2019
• Studied under Tetsuya and Momoko Otani from 2020 to 2025
