Sumire Akita's work is delicate, meticulous, and ephemeral, yet imbued with a romantic quality that evokes the ancient. By reconstructing Koro-Karatsu from a contemporary perspective, she seems to have extracted the very core of its rustic beauty. While retaining the dignified atmosphere of Koro-Karatsu, her pieces have a sharp, modern finish. The strong sense of presence felt in a single piece is actually consistent throughout her entire body of work, with no contradictions anywhere.
