Oribe Glaze Cup and Saucer

Sale price$2,194.00 TWD

Michikazu Sakai creates his works in an anagama kiln, where the strong flames and intense smoke flow give his pieces a unique and serendipitous charm. Although it is a challenging environment where the firing results vary greatly depending on how the kiln is loaded and fired, Sakai repeatedly experiments and skillfully controls the firing process. His works are characterized by their astonishingly crisp and substantial finish.

While incorporating traditional techniques and glazes, Sakai's works are strikingly modern with their sharp shapes.

The soft, warm silhouette, combined with the sharp facets, adds a piquant touch. This interplay of softness and sharpness is truly characteristic of Sakai's work. One can easily imagine coffee being served with a cookie or other baked good on the saucer.
