The "Let's Eat Rice" Exhibition is an exhibition specializing in "rice bowls" with the wish of "enjoying rice deliciously" in autumn when new rice is at its best. It's a competition of rice bowls from 21 splendid artists. You are sure to find your own "ultimate rice bowl"!

This year marks the fourth year since FOOD FOR THOUGHT officially began operating as a gallery.

As someone who deals with ceramics, the "rice bowl" was a theme I absolutely wanted to tackle, but due to the pandemic, I emotionally couldn't hold such an exhibition.

This is because we have always believed that customers should "hold and choose their own rice bowls" in our store.

Having lived in the US and Korea and visited various countries, there is one thing I, the owner, can definitively state about rice bowls.

That is, no other nationality cherishes ceramics (especially rice bowls) by holding them and bringing them to their mouths as much as the Japanese.

In China, there isn't as muchこだわり (attention to detail/pickiness) about rice bowls as in Japan, and in Korea, they don't even hold the bowl when eating. In Western countries, it goes without saying.

In this regard, the Japanese (regardless of their roots, those born and raised in Japan) can proudly boast to the world that they are all experts in the subtle "feel" and "mouthfeel" of ceramics. This is an aesthetic characteristic that no other country possesses.

Indeed, when I observe customers choosing ceramics, they all caress the piece, check its weight, imagine where the rim meets their lips, line them all up to compare from the side, and gaze at the foot ring. And they always imagine how it would pair with their existing tableware.

I find this national trait of pouring so much passion into everyday ceramics, as opposed to art pieces, endearing.

One of my goals was to hold an exhibition where customers, these "rice bowl experts," could compare and enjoy works by leading contemporary Japanese ceramic artists all at once.

This time, a remarkable 21 popular artists created new works for the exhibition. You can take your time to compare and see the "now" of the basic item that is the rice bowl. From earthenware to porcelain, painted pieces to wood-fired, from simple to intricately designed.

In this season of delicious new rice, I hope you all encounter your "ultimate rice bowl"! We sincerely look forward to your visit.
