Mr. Inoue, who creates pottery in Tokoname, his hometown in Aichi, values using "earth," a blessing from the land, in a way that minimizes human intervention. To preserve the taste of the earth, he creates Mishima, Kohiki, and ash-glazed pottery from raw clay and earth he has dug himself.
He says, "Even with raw clay, I create pottery with a focus on ease of use and durability. I want my pottery to be used, not just admired. I pursue both aesthetics and usability."
In recent years, Mr. Inoue's works have garnered strong support, particularly from international customers. One customer mentioned that the blend of ruggedness and grace, and the balance of nature and human intervention, is distinctly Japanese, evoking the "wabi-sabi" found in temples and shrines. It's fascinating how this has led not only Japanese cuisine but also French chefs to begin exploring his work.
This exhibition will feature a rich variety of his works, including basic staples like the popular white Mishima and Kohiki, which are highly regarded at FFT, as well as new variations such as various "hibi-te" (cracked surface) pieces and GOSU (cobalt blue) painted works that he has recently been developing.
These are truly precious works that Mr. Inoue creates with immense dedication. Don't miss this rare opportunity to acquire a collection of pieces, from household use to restaurant use. (Igarashi)
