Yu Uchida Exhibition 4/20 (Sat) - 23 (Tue) at Uehara Store!
From Saturday, April 20 to Tuesday, April 23, FOOD FOR THOUGHT Uehara will be hosting an exhibition by wood artist Yu Uchida for the first time in three years.
Reservations can be made on our reservation ticket website ( https://foodforthoughtshop.net/ ) starting at 10:00 PM on Saturday, April 13.
Mr. Uchida will be present on the first day, Saturday, April 20.

Yu Uchida, a wood artist, works from his studio in Mikasa City, Hokkaido.
When shaping vessels, Mr. Uchida observes the wood grain carefully to determine what shape it is best suited for, and then carves it to maximize the beauty of the material. His works are characterized by their simple and elegant appearance, combined with high practicality that makes them easy to incorporate into daily dining.
Unique items, such as those treated with dyeing techniques like iron mordant, are distinctively Uchida's. Dyeing beautifully accentuates the shading of the wood grain, adding depth to their presence. On the other hand, pieces finished naturally with vegetable oil are also popular.
Uchida's works, which continuously explore the possibilities of materials, reveal various expressions of wood over time. The silky smooth texture of the wood feels pleasant to the touch, and they have an abundance of charm that makes you want to pick them up repeatedly in daily life. If cared for properly, they will last a lifetime.
In this exhibition, in addition to standard items, you can also see valuable pieces specially ordered by Arko Watanabe, director of FOOD FOR THOUGHT. Lidded containers, double-flat round plates, and shallow versions of the popular fruit bowls were requested. The trays, which are consistently popular at our store, will also be made in an impressive 36cm size!
This rich collection of works will satisfy everyone, from Uchida fans to those encountering his work for the first time. Moreover, there are many works that we highly recommend restaurant owners to see. Please look forward to it.
