Masayuki Miyagi
Masayuki Miyagi, a potter working in Nanjo City, Okinawa.
When Mr. Miyagi's works arrive at FOOD FOR THOUGHT and the staff opens them, a chorus of "Oh!" can be heard.
The celadon-glazed pieces have beautiful kiln variations, and the blue, as if the very ocean of Okinawa has arrived, is truly moving.
What's truly astonishing is the precision with which he controls the chemical changes of the glaze, which are incredibly difficult to manage in terms of temperature, almost perfectly, and the high level of skill evident in the virtually uniform size and thickness of his creations.
If one were to pick up his works imagining the laid-back atmosphere of Okinawa, one would quickly realize how utterly mistaken they were. At FOOD FOR THOUGHT, we handle the works of many artists, but despite the rustic appearance, we have never seen anyone create earthenware with such perfect, millimeter-perfect precision. The beauty when stacked is truly moving. It's clear why he is highly regarded by chefs.
