須藤拓也 / Takuya Sudo

Takuya Sudo

At first glance, Takuya Sudo's works appear to be orthodox and authentic sometsuke (blue and white porcelain) pieces. However, upon closer inspection, each hand-drawn design tells a unique story, making them incredibly modern and distinctive. They are elegant and playful, setting them apart from sometsuke that merely imitates old styles. Each piece creates its own world, captivating the viewer.

He draws, arranging his favorite motifs such as arabesque patterns, plants, and animals, while considering the overall balance to suit the shape and size of each piece. Learning from crafts and nature from all times and places, he doesn't merely copy old vessels but incorporates his contemporary sensibilities into the form of pottery.
