Taku Eiki
We were deeply moved by Mr. Nagaki's words: "My work should not be the star. A piece is only complete when it is used. For a vessel, it is completed when food is served in it. And the good feel in the hand is important."
"A little evidence of handwork is enough. Many people leave marks, so I try to create with a subtractive approach as much as possible. Based on subtraction rather than addition, without putting too much of myself into it."
Previously, Mr. Nagaki only made art pieces. At a food event he attended, he was asked to make vessels, and the people who used them were very pleased. He experienced "my work being used by people and connecting with them, and bringing joy," and felt great joy from it. From then on, his work shifted to vessels.
As humble as his words are, his works are quiet, but when viewed as a whole, Mr. Nagaki's pieces are extremely stylish and eloquent. The precision and clarity in the details are excellent.
Mr. Nagaki's glass pieces possess a good presence, appearing to shed individuality yet retaining a distinct personality. Please take a look.
