APOTHECARY balm
This is the "Balm" from the FOOD FOR THOUGHT APOTHECARY series.
This balm was actually a horse oil-based balm that was sold in small quantities at the atelier during FOOD FOR THOUGHT director Yuko Watanabe's cooking classes, and it received enthusiastic support from her students.
This balm is carefully made in Aso, Kumamoto Prefecture, using only 100% locally sourced horse oil from Kumamoto, taking a significant amount of time to produce.
Watanabe always uses this balm for burns that are common in cooking, and she highly recommends it, saying, "It's incredibly effective!" Horse oil has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, and it is known to soothe heat. Therefore, it has been used since ancient times as a folk remedy for wounds, skin irritations, sunburns, and burns.
Of course, it can be safely used all over the body for moisturizing the face and body, or for hair styling. Horse oil has strong penetrating power and is very similar in nature to human sebum. When applied and spread, it quickly penetrates the stratum corneum, leaving the skin smooth and dry in a short time. The skin will retain plenty of oil inside, ensuring long-lasting moisture.
Horse oil is not a mineral oil and is completely harmless, so it is also prescribed as a treatment for atopic dermatitis and acne. FOOD FOR THOUGHT's balm is a gentle product that generously uses such horse oil and adds beeswax. It can be used safely by babies, children, and those with sensitive skin.
